چکیده

From the time the Leishman stain has been used for staining blood cells and parasites, it has been dissolved in acetone-free good quality methyl alcohol. Dissolving the stain in inferiorquality methyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol always gives poor results and hsematologists and parasitologists requiring precision work would always use acetone-free methyl alcohol of the best quality. After the second world war it has been becoming increasingly difficult to obtain methyl alcohol. Substitute stains, e.g. Field's stain (Field, 1940) and J.S.B. stain (Singh and Bhattacharjee, 1944), though good enough for detection of malaria parasites, are not at all suitable for hsBmatological work. A few months ago experiments were started in the department of hematology to find out if good stain suitable for hsematological work could be prepared by dissolving dry Leishman stain in ethyl alcohol.
